FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE “HALELU” CANTATA FOR PEACE RECEIVES WORLD PREMIER PERFORMANCE IN BELGRADE, SERBIA The world premier performance of the peace cantata Halelu---Songs of David took take place on May 19, 2007 in Belgrade, Serbia. The 40-minute composition for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, is the collaborative effort between the award-winnng Israeli vocalist/composer David D’Or and American composer/conductor, David Eaton. Mr. D’Or, one of Israel’s most prominent artists, was joined by soprano, Seiko Lee as vocal soloists, and Mr. Eaton, music director of the New York City Symphony, conducted the combined forces of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and the 120-voice choir of the Academic Cultural Artistic Society. The concert was held at the Sava Arts Center in Belgrade and was televised to six other Eastern European countries. MUSIC FOR PEACE David D’Or and David Eaton first met in Israel in 2004 at a concert promoting Interfaith harmony at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. In 2005 they began the joint effort of composing Halelu and the piece was subsequently recorded in Tel Aviv in 2006 with the Ra’anana Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Chorus of Israel. The ten-movement cantata is an expression of the composers’ desire to cultivate a culture of peace. Their hope for musicians and artists to be Ambassadors for Peace by using their creative abilities to promote understanding, healing and reconciliation, lies at the heart of their collaboration. Mr. D’Or, Mr. Eaton and Miss Lee have performed internationally advocating the importance of building bridges through music. In January, Mr. D’Or appeared with the Orchestra of The Beijing Opera in China as a cultural envoy between China and Israel, and Miss Lee has recently returned from her third appearance in North Korea, a rarity for an artist from Japan, Korea’s historical enemy. All the principal artists have appeared together at the United Nations’ General Assembly in various peace-related concerts, including Mr. Eaton and Ms. Lee performing at the U.N.’s 70th Anniversary Concert in 2015. PEACE, SHALOM, SALAAM ALEIKUM The music of Halelu is a fusion of diverse musical styles including Western tonality and Middle-Eastern modality and rhythms, and is sung in English, Hebrew, Arabic and Latin. The greetings of peace of the three Abrahamic faiths---Judaism, Christianity and Islam (Peace, Shalom, Salaam Aleikum)---figure prominently in the lyrics of several movements, with Psalm 113 (sung in Hebrew by Mr. D’Or) being the basis of the 4th movement. COMMEMORATION The Halelu premiere concert was produced and organized by the Embassy of Israel in Serbia with support of Israeli-Serbian Business Fund to commemorate the occasion of the 59th Independence Day of Israel.
